Feedback Requested: New Proposed Structure for the B Impact Assessment
The B Impact Assessment is B Lab’s online tool for companies to measure and manage their positive impact on stakeholders like their employees, their community, and the environment. The B Impact Assessment goes through version updates every three years in order to stay up-to-date with best practices and trends in measurement and to incorporate user and stakeholder feedback. The B Impact Assessment’s next iteration, Version 6, is scheduled to launch in January of 2019.
One proposed change to the BIA in Version 6 concerns Goals, the thematic subheadings used in the BIA to organize and communicate its content and a company’s performance. Goals exist beneath Impact Areas, which are primarily focused around the stakeholder groups of the business (Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers). Examples of Goals in Version 5 of the BIA include Transparency (under Governance); Occupational Health & Safety (under Workers); and Suppliers, Distributors, and Product (under Community).
For Version 6, B Lab and its Standards Advisory Council have developed a new goal structure intended to make the BIA more consistent, to more clearly articulate what the BIA values and measures, and to more effectively communicate how well a company performs. Now, B Lab is seeking feedback from stakeholders of the BIA.
