Voice of the B Corporation Community

Team B the Change

If you know Tim Frick, you know a man who will give the shirt off his back to the next person beside him. This past winter, Tim sought to support two of his favorite communities, Climate Ride and B Corporations. Touted by many as the "green conference on wheels", Climate Ride takes cyclists and social entrepreneurs alike through 600 miles of America's sprawling landscapes in a series of charitable bicycle rides to support sustainable energy solutions and environmental causes.

Tim helped to spearhead a team of riders and supporters from the B Corporation community, and Team B the Change began. Over four months, more than 10 B Corps came together, bridging support from Washington State, North Carolina, Colorado, Nevada, California, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.

This past Sunday, the team embarked on the first ride: Climate Ride California. Riders began in the heart of Northern California's Redwood Empire, pressed through the Avenue of the Giants, to the stout climb of 1,400 feet over Leggett Hill, and emerged from the lush countryside onto the coastal highways. They cycled through California's wine country, past quaint towns, and over quiet Pacific roads.

Off the bike, the riders are executives, marketing reps, community builders, web developers, and writers. They rode alongside friends from Clif Bar, 1% for the Planet, and Green America. B Corps New Belgium Brewing, Genuine Health, and TS Designs also contributed vital support.

To the humble riders -- Tim, Dermot, Steph, Andy, Lara, Tory, Merlin, and Lori - we thank you.

In this first event, Team B the Change raised more than $20,000 for B Lab, the nonprofit serving B Corporations, to continue fueling this global movement of people using the power of business as a force for good.

Tomorrow the ride will conclude with a cross over the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco.

If you're on the West Coast, you can join the team on foot tomorrow at Noon for a celebration at San Francisco's City Hall.

If you're on the East Coast, you can join the team for the next ride this September as we depart by ferry from Manhattan and pedal to the steps of the Capitol in Washington DC.
