About 2b Design

2b design is an award-winning company which transforms architectural salvage from conflict zones and other reclaimed materials into high end home décor. Currently the company operates out of Beirut, Lebanon and Cambridge, MA, USA. 2b design trains and employs directly and indirectly marginalized and disabled men and women to enable them to become world class artisans and enjoy a dignified living.  The company involves in its work people of diverse backgrounds to promote reconciliation. Its flagship brand is called Beyt which means House or Home in semitic languages. 2b design is often referred to as Beyt by 2b design. 

The company mission is to restore the unseen beauty of the broken. It includes 4 focus areas:  people, broken heritage, broken environment, broken relationships. 

2b design's creations can be found in Europe, the Middle East,  Japan and the US sold through a network of retailers or directly to customers. The products include lamps, tables, candelabras and other home decor made out of 18th, 19th c and early 20th century elements from destroyed houses in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon. Lampshades and cushions are handmade out of 18th or 19th c. linen, vintage ethnic fabrics and other fabric remnants.  Overall about 90% of the contents of each handcrafted item comes from recycled and repurposed raw materials. Since the creation of the business 100% of the workers who make the products have been recruited from marginalized backgrounds. 

Our concept of impact includes not only what we do directly but also through collaboration with other like minded individuals and organizations.  As a result becoming part of the B Corp community was a logical outcome of our desire to further expand our scope of collaboration and belong to a movement with high standards. We work in the US and in the Middle East where we are a Founding B Corp in Lebanon,  as such we hope to inspire other Middle Eastern companies to join the community and work for positive change in a region which badly needs it.

Having started in a conflict torn region before replicating its model to the US 2b design strives to build a business that can be a powerful inspiration for change. The company aims to show that broken pieces of heritage or discarded materials can be transformed into elements of great beauty. It seeks to transform people who have been broken in their dignity, body, spirit or who come from disadvantaged backgrounds into talented individuals who contribute to a better world. 2b design wants to turn broken relationships between individuals of diverse faith, ethnic and cultural backgrounds into lasting bonds where differences build peace not create conflict.
