About Andean Naturals

Andean Naturals was founded in 2004 with the mission of sharing quinoa with the world.  Although the company’s initial plan was to sell directly to consumers, it quickly realized that there was a more pressing need for a reliable industrial link in the supply chain.  Once large food companies could access a high volume, high quality supply of organic quinoa, they were be able to meet the booming demand of this soon-to-be health-food staple.

Andean Naturals today is a bridge between South American quinoa farmers and US food companies. It facilitates the growth of the organic and fair-trade quinoa market while improving the lives of over 4,500 small family farmers through increased income, technical assistance and sustained demand.

Andean Naturals has offices in Foster City-California, Sheboygan-Wisconsin, a cleaning plant in La Paz, Bolivia and a pre-shipment quality control laboratory in Lima, Peru.   Together with it joint venture partner Specialty Commodities the company supplies of all quinoa in North America.

Becoming a B Corp is a natural expression of our identity as a company and, above all, as individuals. We strive to surround ourselves with people who share our social and environmental values.  By joining the B Corp community we also wanted to surround Andean Naturals with companies who share our beliefs and struggles.  It’s encouraging to know that we’re not alone on this journey.

The Change We Seek ®

Sharing Quinoa With the World is more than a catchy slogan: it points to the connection we seek to create between consumers and producers.  We want the consumer to know and care about the small family farmers in the Andes.  We hope to humanize the various aspects of the seed’s journey from the Andean fields to the consumer's table.  The fruit of our labor will be evident when consumers choose between a $5 bag of fair-trade certified, organic Royal quinoa and a $3.99 bag of quinoa.  The first will provide a sustainable income for thousands of family farmers who farm their communal lands, are paid fairly for their seed and are treated as equal partners in the supply chain.

Andean Naturals actively supports innovation in quinoa production such as efforts to increase agricultural yields while maintaining a positive environmental and social impact.  Through its investments in Bolivia the company has generated over 100 jobs directly and its enterprises contribute to the development the local economy through income tax payments and exports. In the U.S. the company works with food processors to develop new quinoa-based ingredients, seeking how to best integrate quinoa into everyday foods.

We are encouraged by the positive impact in the quinoa fields in South America and at mealtime around the world.
