About Food Connect

Food Connect is a social enterprise connecting local farmers and eaters in South East Queensland for over 13 years. They are transforming the food system taking a rights-based approach rather than seeing food as a commodity. Using a true-cost model, Food Connect returns a fair price to regenerative farmers using a unique community distribution model, reducing food miles to an average of 140km per week. Staff are engaged in democratic decision making and customers are treated to a weekly supply of healthy, whole foods from fabulous farmers and food makers.

B Corp certification is a natural fit for us. Since our inception in 2004, every decision we've made at Food Connect takes into account the principles set out in our Fair Food Manifesto. Now we can measure our impact and strive to strengthen our business systems against best practice, global benchmarks. We are really excited about joining this community of like-minded businesses, to deepen our learning and co-create a better world for everyone.

The Change We Seek®

Food Connect believes that food is a human right, not a commodity. Food Connect is transforming a failing food system by creating a localised, true-cost and transparent model of local food aggregation and distribution.

Everyone in the food value chain should be rewarded fairly and treated ethically for their part in producing, processing and delivering the food we enjoy. That food should be sourced as locally as possible, thereby reducing the carbon footprint, revitalising rural and remote communities, and stimulating local economic development. Food Connect's model has been replicated in a number of locations in Australia and its relentless advocacy has helped to grow the 'Fair Food Movement' across the nation.

Local family farmers are encouraged to transition from conventional farming methods to regenerative systems, and eaters are educated about the nutritional value of fresh, organic produce and meet farmers on organised farm tours. This is the 'connect' piece of Food Connect, as food is seen as the vehicle for eaters to connect to their producers, the land and the soil that nourishes them. Food Connect minimises waste and it's warehouse operations employ rigorous recycling and sustainability practices.
