MIO’s products are made in the US out of environmentally preferable materials and processes. MIO’s design practice integrates environmental and social considerations at every stage, from material selection and sourcing, to logistics, use, maintenance and end of product life considerations.

MIO’s design team provides strategic design consulting services for companies that seek to bridge the gap between business and sustainability through design. At the heart of MIO’s work is their philosophy of responsible desire. MIO’s guiding principle that consumption of responsibly made goods and services should be driven by desire and delight, rather than guilt or fear.

MIO products embody sustainable opportunities in local manufacturing, intelligent resource management, efficient logistics and flexible utility. Their approach to sustainability starts with a rigorous design process. Brief development and research focus on transforming behaviors to benefit customers and the environment. MIO selects materials and processes by evaluating environmental impact and design opportunity. Factories are selected based on proximity, physical inspections and socially responsible track records. Manufacturers that are closer to MIO’s distribution center are given priority as a way to reduce impact from transportation, support the local economy and have the power to design for manufacturing efficiency from the production floor.

MIO’s products solve real problems in unique ways, redefining consumer expectations and expanding the market for responsible wares. MIO furnishings are designed to be modular, customizable, reconfigurable and flat packed as ways of rewarding customers while serving environmental goals.
