About Relevance
Relevance is a software services and consulting organization. How we work and the tools we use are all derived from our core beliefs, namely:
* software is everywhere. All parts of society have some reliance on software now.
* software is powerful; the ability to create software represents enormous leverage.
* people matter. Software is an artifact, people are what give it meaning and value.
* the greatest good can be generated through sustainable businesses.
These principles create a lens through which we see the world of software consulting. We do not limit ourselves to a specific vertical market or type of application, but rather focus on bringing repeatable excellence wherever we have the opportunity to engage with interesting problems. Interesting problems are hard problems, where the solution is not obvious but the value for the end user is real and measurable. We work humanely, treating our teammates, partners, customers and vendors with respect and honesty. And we seek to minimize our negative externalities while creating positive ones, through policies like "Open Fridays", where our team members can work on open source, community projects or personal growth instead of billable work.
When we engage with a partner, we provide more than just software development: we provide a software development ecosystem. Our goal is to flesh out your team, filling in whatever gaps are necessary. The heart of our efforts are our developers who work in pairs and bring experience and knowledge to the task of writing good code. We supplement those developers with whatever other roles the project requires: coaching (to keep the project running smoothly), architecture (high level technical direction with an eye toward end results), design (graphical and experience), deployment/ops, and quality management. In short, when we engage on a project, we seek to ensure that nothing slips through the cracks and that we work effectively, efficiently and humanely to create value for all the project stakeholders."
The Change We Seek®
Software developers are the accelerant of change in today's economy. Because so many businesses now depend on software, the values Relevance brings and builds into its products can change the way enterprises view and determine value.
• Relevance seeks to bring its values to its customers and introduce them to new techniques: data transparency and ubiquity, humane work schedules, communication over confrontation, open source and open business, and the single-minded dedication to identifying the "Simplest Thing That Works".
• The company has a distinct emphasis on how it treats its employees: working at Relevance shouldn't feel like a j-o-b.
• Relevance also focuses on sustainable practices, local sourcing, and giving back through open source and pro bono work. Everyone on the Relevance technical team spends Fridays working on open source software that is contributed back to the community.
