Impact Energies (IE) is reinventing the way clean energy products reach the world’s poorest consumers, and in doing so, is building a profitable business to help solve the distribution and financing challenges that keep 1.4 billion people in the dark. Impact Energies’ solution is to integrate the energy product supply chain from the factory to the village doorstep. IE leverages unique partnerships with microfinance institutions to both ensure end user financing is available to poor consumers, and to manage a network of commission based entrepreneurs through the MFI branch network. IE minimizes inventory costs and tracks inventory flows by connecting all of its partners to its SMS cloud based inventory management system. IE’s approach is already delivering affordable high quality products such as solar LED lamps and micro-solar home systems to energy-poor consumers in West Africa.
We became a B Corporation because we are focused on the needs of underserved customers, and see being a for-profit company as the best way to accomplish our goals. The primary purpose of our business is developing creative solutions to the energy challenges at the bottom of the pyramid, and our success is inseparable from meeting these stakeholders’ needs.

The Change We Seek®
Impact Energies brings needed clean energy products to customers through partnerships with microfinance institutions which have the networks and capacity to successfully distribute and finance them.
• IE’s business model is based on: (i) low cost product sourcing derived from bulk purchases; (ii) eliminating multiple inefficient ‘middlemen’; (iii) partnerships with MFIs and; (iv) linking partners to our SMS cloud based inventory management system.
•With this model, IE provides suppliers with access to customers, and helps MFIs access a loan product that meets the needs of their clients.
•To date, IE has executed over $220,000 of long-term product supply contracts & loan agreements with 2 MFIs in West Africa, and is supplying another 3 MFIs on a trial basis. Together, these MFIs currently serve a borrower base of 60,000 and operate in communities totaling over 1.5 million people in need of clean energy.
•By 2016, IE anticipates providing energy to nearly 3.1 million people through partnerships with 44 microfinance institutions.
