For twenty-five years, Trillium has been a leader in socially responsible investing. They are guided by a belief that active investing can offer good returns to investors while promoting environmental sustainability and social and economic justice. Trillium is an independent employee-owned firm dedicated to professional, high quality, individualized service for our clients.
In our view, Trillium was a B Corp before there was a name for it. We were founded explicitly to benefit society and the environment as well as our employee shareholders. It has been part of our mission since day one. It was a natural step for us to become a B Corporation and promote this model of doing business.
They have created a work environment that encourages personal development and growth, and in which ownership, responsibilities, and rewards are broadly shared. Trillium also supports and collaborates with a broad network of organizations working toward common goals.
The Change We Seek®
Trillium seeks to fulfill the financial, social, and ecological goals of individual and institutional investors, and we exclusively handle socially responsible investments. But our mission goes further. We are deeply committed to using the power of capital markets to move toward a sustainable economy that properly values people and planet.
Trillium Asset Management Corporation will be the leader in investing to achieve financial gain, social equity, and ecological sustainability. Our socially responsible investment approach goes beyond the current strategy of screening out any investments linked to alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and gambling (a process known as negative or sinful screening). We add several criteria to our social investments: active stock ownership, community investments, and public policy involvement. These areas help us understand better how our portfolios have the potential to make an impact. We measure the success of our social investments based on their total impact so we can better support higher impact investments.
In addition to helping our clients achieve their financial and social goals, we are part of a larger effort that is underway to create a global network of socially responsible investments and businesses aligned with the same principles that we express. A few examples of our broader work include testifying in support of the anti-apartheid movement and incubating and supporting organizations such as Ceres and the Social Investment Forum.
