About Liga Masiva

Liga Masiva is like a global farmers’ market, directly connecting organic farmers in Latin America with consumers in the US. By eliminating the unnecessary middlemen and anonymity in international trade, Liga Masiva is able to pay small-scale farmers 200% what they could otherwise earn, while offering consumers the rich experience of the people and place these products come from.

Becoming a B Corp allows us to codify our commitment to improving the lives of Latin American farmers into the core structure of our business.

Liga Masiva started its “Direct Trade” model by partnering with six organic small-holder coffee farmers in the Dominican Republic. The model is fundamentally about people, instead of commodity prices. Through Liga Masiva’s innovative “Socios” program, partner farmers have access to pre-harvest capital and technical assistance to increase coffee quality, as well as long term contracts to protect them against market fluctuations. Liga Masiva is expanding operations to roll this model out to other products and more small-scale farmers throughout Latin America.

The Change We Seek®

In the service of building a more positively connected world, Liga Masiva is creating a model of trade that is direct, sustainable, and just. This work is done by partnering with amazing organic farmers and creating communities around their products in the US. The change Liga Masiva seeks is for trade to be based on relationships, not commodity prices, and for the system to benefit each person involved in the creation of the product.

Three-quarters of the world’s poorest people are smallholder farmers. Rather than addressing the consequences of this poverty, Liga Masiva’s seeks to reverse the process that has caused the farmers’ poverty to begin with. Instead of having no access to information, they make sure farmers are connected with the right people in the value chain. Instead of having no access to quality markets, Liga Masiva builds those markets here in the US and connects farmers directly to them. Instead of having to pay 50-60% as a cost of capital, Liga Masiva ensures farmers can finance crops in a reasonable way.

Liga Masiva strives to build a model of trade that allows small-scale farmers to stay on their farms, producing quality products and tending the environment. Simultaneously, Liga Masiva strives to enrich consumers’ lives and knowledge through these products and the stories and histories of their production.
