Moka Joe is a wholesale roaster of 100% Fair Trade, certified organic, bird friendly, shade grown, Kosher coffee. They work hard to entice the hundreds of natural compounds found in coffee beans into wonderful roasts and blends to suit every taste and preference. They are a small-batch, wholesale micro-roaster that deeply cares about the origins and growing methods used to create your cup of coffee, almost as much as you care about the flavor and aroma.
We became a B Corp to challenge ourselves to step up to be as socially and environmentally responsible as we can as individuals and as a company.
Arabica beans have the most flavor and aroma of all coffee beans. At higher elevations the beans grow and develop more slowly, leading to more complex and enhanced flavor characteristics. These are the beans they search out to purchase and roast into specialty premium gourmet coffees. As orders come in, their roastmaster selects the combination of beans and roasts them in small batches. This roasting process uses less direct heat so the roast is more gently controlled, ending with a consistent product with consistent taste - batch after batch.
The Change We Seek®
We seek to educate consumers on how Fair Trade and organic Coffee can make a difference in the life of a coffee farmer and their communities. Moka Joe is proud to be one of a handful of coffee roasters in the nation who purchase and roast 100% Fair Trade Certified beans. This means that the beans come from farming cooperatives and small farms of less than 15 acres. All of these superior Arabica beans are shade grown using traditional farming methods to preserve biodiversity and bird habitat. In most cases, that means hand pruning and weeding, thinning and harvesting. Only organic compost and fertilizers are used to encourage the well-being of the plants.
Moka Joe and Atlas Coffee Importers have created a new coffee to benefit the The Clean Water Foundation (www.cleanwaterfoundation.com) The proceeds of the sales of “Coffee for Clean Water” will go to purchase portable water filtration systems to be installed in our coffee communities around the world.
