Natural Systems Utilities, LLC is an innovative water asset management company that designs, builds, owns, and operates decentralized and distributed water delivery, treatment, and reuse infrastructure. NSU regards water as an essential, long-term environmental and community asset. Their systems are designed to preserve the quality and quantity of available freshwater supplies through careful stewardship, effective treatment, and appropriate reuse of treated wastewater and byproducts.
Creating social and environmental value is inherent in NSU’s business model and corporate culture, so becoming a B Corp was both natural and important for us. Having corporate practices and services validated by an external third party assures our stakeholders that we “walk the talk.” In addition, the assessment process itself stimulates employee engagement and innovation, driving continual learning and improvement.
Water is the core of NSU's approach to sustainability, but their systems integrate energy, ecosystems and biodiversity, and soil health goals. NSU relies on a range of technologies modeled on and inspired by natural processes, from constructed wetlands to membrane bioreactors, to achieve the optimally sustainable system for each site or application. Increasing concerns about the availability and quality of water supplies—for domestic, commercial, and industrial uses—are among the macro-trends driving demand for NSU’s services and rapid growth.
The Change We Seek®
Natural Systems Utilities, LLC aims to achieve environmental, social, and financial impact and to create value for all its stakeholders—investors, employees, clients, and the communities in which we work. We are implementing a framework for defining, measuring, and communicating our progress toward the following goals:
• Environmental: Implement systems that achieve the least net water and energy consumption, that restore and regenerate natural ecologies (soil, water, habitat) and processes.
• Social: Contribute to healthy, vibrant communities; foster a workplace culture of innovation, inclusiveness, and service.
• Financial: Achieve growth and profitability to reward all stakeholders fairly while fulfilling our role as long-term steward of natural resources and community partner.
