About Breckinridge Capital Advisors

Breckinridge Capital Advisors is a Boston-based investment advisor specializing in the management of high-grade fixed-income portfolios for institutions and private clients. Working through a network of investment consultants and advisors, Breckinridge offers municipal, corporate, government and sustainable bond strategies in customized separate accounts.

This is what sets Breckinridge apart:

High Grade Fixed Income
Since inception, Breckinridge has focused exclusively on managing high-grade fixed income portfolios for clients seeking reliable income and capital preservation. With this as Breckinridge’s only investment mandate, its research, trading and portfolio management efforts are free from conflict and compromise with other strategies.

Bottom-Up Credit Research
Breckinridge looks beyond rating agency reports in conducting fundamental research that begins at the issuer and security level. Using proprietary credit algorithms, a firm-wide credit matrix, environmental, social and governance (ESG) data and other criteria, Breckinridge’s offers a depth of analysis that it believes is unique in the high-grade fixed income sector.

Customized Separate Accounts
At Breckinridge, all client portfolios are managed in separate accounts. Breckinridge believes this approach offers important benefits to their clients, including predictable cash flows independent of market returns, full transparency, avoidance of fund flows and the flexibility to meet specific client objectives.

Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is integral to the Breckinridge process and consistent with its founding philosophies. With roots in the municipal bond market, Breckinridge has long viewed sustainability as a positive contributor to portfolio credit quality. Breckinridge has fully integrated ESG research into its investment process, offers clients sustainable strategies, and, as a company, it is committed to the environment and the communities in which it lives, works and invests.

Operational Excellence
Breckinridge continually enhances the systems, technology, and business processes that form the backbone of its operations. From research, trading and portfolio management to operations and client service, Breckinridge is committed to continuously improving its accuracy, responsiveness and investment management capabilities.

At Breckinridge we are committed to the environment and the communities in which we live, work and invest. Becoming a B Corp strengthens that commitment and attests to the integrity of our business. It also demonstrates that the standards we apply to ourselves are consistent with those we seek in our investments.

The Change We Seek®

One of the goals at Breckinridge is to help investors remain focused on a long-term investment horizon. Indicative of this goal is Breckinridge’s full integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors in its investment process. While the company’s research begins with fundamental financial analysis, Breckinridge believes analyzing ESG data provides a broader, more forward-looking assessment of potential risks that may not be reflected in the market. Simply put, Breckinridge thinks issuers that score highly in its proprietary ESG frameworks are better prepared to meet challenges of the future—and poised to take advantage of new opportunities. By considering ESG data and looking beyond short-term financial results, Breckinridge’s internal research provides an important advantage, which aligns well with the long-term investment approach it works to support for its clients.

Another equally important goal at Breckinridge is to bring a sustainable approach to mainstream investing. Breckinridge is confident that over time the market will increasingly recognize the materiality of many ESG indicators. As this happens, managements will be more likely to consider some of the costs or risks they may have previously ignored. Thus, broader adoption of ESG analysis among the investment community may encourage issuers to adopt more sustainable policies and practices. Breckinridge welcomes this potential positive impact, and supports it by actively engaging with our borrowers, peers, and other industry thought leaders to shift thinking from the short-term to the long term.

Additionally, it is important that Breckinridge mirrors the behavior it looks for in its investments, and to that end, Breckinridge continually looks to increase efforts to address sustainability companywide, and to formally integrate ESG assessments into business operations. Three committees – Environmental, Social and Governance - form the venue for sustainability to permeate the Breckinridge culture, and work to define and creatively address the significant sustainability issues the company faces. Breckinridge remains committed to acting with the highest standards of purpose, accountability and transparency, and continually strives to improve its ESG impact through companywide initiatives as well.
