About GO Box

GO Box is the first and only reusable takeout container service offering customers a way to get their meal in an environmentally friendly, reusable alternative to the single-use disposable container. With a mission of "doing away with throw away," GO Box makes sustainable eating fast, easy, and convenient for people who eat on the go.

Customers subscribe to GO Box for unlimited use. After downloading the GO Box mobile app, they use the app when ordering food to get their meal in a reusable, durable takeout container. When they’re done with their food, they return the container to a nearby drop site, using the app to scan and return their GO Box. Then they’re ready to use GO Box again.

GO Box picks up the used containers, has them washed in a commercial kitchen, and returns them clean to vendors — all by bicycle!

We are a mission-driven business working to do away with throw away. We became a B Corp to amplify this mission while joining a community of businesses with similar values.

The Change We Seek®

Throwaway packaging litters oceans, piles up in landfills, and contributes greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Every day in the U.S., millions of people get meals "to go" in single-use disposable clamshells or boxes. These containers require resources to produce, are used for a very short amount of time, and then end their short lives filling up landfills. In downtown Portland alone, food cart customers use and throw away about 60,000 disposable containers every month.

The problem, of course, isn’t takeout — it’s the lack of options available to people who eat out regularly but want to reduce their environmental footprint. GO Box gives people a fast, easy, and convenient alternative to singe-use disposables so they don’t have to worry about burdening our landfills when they grab a bite to eat.

Since launching, GO Box has prevented the use of over 100,000 disposable containers. They hope to spread their mission of doing away with throw away to cities across the U.S. and Canada, making it easier for everyone to make a sustainable choice when getting their food to-go.
