Open Neighborhoods provides a social media platform to connect local neighborhoods with free Wi-Fi Internet and affordable solar power. They work with municipalities and community organizations to deliver programs offering discounted group purchasing and financing options for rooftop solar; a Green Power for Communities program to engage community-wide adoption of clean energy; Open Wi-Fi mesh broadband; and a network of neighborhood blogs, email newsletters and social networks reaching local residents and businesses.
We became a B Corp because we work closely with organizations that are dedicated to serving their stakeholder communities. Open Neighborhood's commitment is to social and environmental performance and the B Corp certification reflects our intent to serve the interests of society, not just our shareholders.
• SOLAR - The Open Neighborhoods Community Solar program was recognized by Renewable Energy World for delivering a cheaper cost per kilowatt-hour of electricity delivered than the most cost-effective, utility-scale concentrating solar power plant in the world. Open Neighborhoods is working with communities in Venice, Silver Lake, Mar Vista, Santa Monica - and across Los Angeles County - to establish and achieve neighborhood-wide clean energy goals through community-wide participation in its Green Power for Communities program.
• WI-FI - Open Neighborhoods Wi-Fi has delivered free and affordable broadband Internet to thousands of users with the support of neighborhood residents and businesses who are safely and securely sharing broadband Internet with their neighbors.
• SOCIAL - The Open Neighborhoods network of advertiser-sponsored community websites delivers social media engagement with local leaders and neighborhood stakeholders via online blogs, photos, groups, videos, events, and classifieds. They publish The Open Daily (www.theopendaily.com), a digital news publication featuring neighborhood events, issues and businesses in the communities they serve.
The Change We Seek®
Open Neighborhoods seeks to ensure that every community has access to fast and affordable Internet with a goal to support education, commerce, and communications. They seek to achieve community-wide adoption of clean power and to continue as a leader in bringing affordable solar energy to neighborhood communities.
