As a triple bottom line company, Skymeter’s pay-as-you-go services contribute to environmental sustainability via the reduction of vehicle miles traveled, circling for parking, and congestion and by enabling large-scale emission-reduction programs. Skymeter’s ability to provide feedback regarding several aspects of driving behaviour and driver choice reduces fuel consumption, improves driver safety, and rewards eco-driving—each of which improves urban livability. Skymeter’s enablement of peer-to-peer carsharing means greater access to mobility for low-income drivers while reducing overall vehicle ownership and creating a local economic multiplier by keeping car-rental money in the neighborhood. Skymeter’s for-profit services encompass all forms of pay-as-you-go metering services: carsharing, eCall, rental, driver behavior, parking, usage-based insurance, and many others.

We became a B Corp to express our intention of enabling a fundamental change in the altitude of entitlement and automatic-choice that frequently occurs with ownership and use of automobiles. We believe that being part of the B Corporation community helps ensure that we keep our environmental and social intentions in front of our Board, employees, customers, and stakeholders such as the environmental NGOs with which we engage.

Skymeter Corporation understands the critical economic and social importance of motorized automobility. Skymeter knows the automobile is often essential for many people for job-reach, social-reach, and other access needs, especially in ‘transit deserts’. But some of these automotive trips are less valuable and/or more overpowered than necessary. Many such trips can be deferred, chained, shared, avoided or downsized.

Many Transportation Demand Management professionals seek a shift from payment for road use via fuel, property, sales or general-fund taxes toward a pay-for-use paradigm to encourage more conservative consumption of vehicle miles (kilometers).
