Solutions for Progress (SfP) is committed to helping families sustainably move out of poverty through the practical application of innovative technology and public policy.
We became a B Corp to formalize the triple-bottom-line model we have followed since our founding, and to join the B Corp community of socially and environmentally conscious enterprises. We hope to learn from and contribute to this exciting movement.
Since its founding in 1992, Solutions for Progress has combined policy expertise and innovative technology to solve social and economic problems. Its signature product, The Benefit Bank® online service (www.thebenefitbank.org) is revolutionizing how low- and moderate-income Americans are able to access work and income supports including tax credits and refunds, student financial aid, and benefits such as food, medical, cash, heating, and disability assistance.
TBB™ is unique as it functions as a benefits eligibility screener, a benefits application filer and as IRS-certified tax assistance and filing service. It is tailored to the needs of each state’s residents and geared to deliver both paper and electronic filing options for each offering. TBB’s unrivaled sophistication in eligibility screening ensures that clients know with confidence which benefits they can count upon receiving and, as an expert system, it helps them maximize the benefits and tax refunds they can secure.
SfP currently operates a statewide service in Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Texas, with new states being added in 2012. SfP’s expert staff works under one roof to provide research, analysis, programming, development, updating, training, help desk, and marketing services.

The Change We Seek®
SfP’s mission is to break down barriers that prevent eligible low-and-moderate income Americans from receiving the help they need to ensure economic stability. SfP seeks this change by partnering with nonprofit affiliates in many states and many sectors. Each of these partners brings its own expertise and focus -- nutrition, education, health -- to the table, and may collaborate in turn with social service agencies and other local stakeholders.
TThe Benefit Bank online service is always free at point of use -- no consumer can be charged for using the service. That fact, together with the simple question and answer format, make it appropriate for use by both volunteers and professional staff at a wide range of community and faith-based organizations, as well as in job-training, schools and community colleges, prison reentry points, health and mental health agencies. TBB is structured to address the needs of a wide range of user communities, providing services that address their specific needs while opening a window on the full set of bundled work and income supports that are available to assist individuals and families to sustainably rise out of poverty. A self-service version is also available.
Government agencies and their workers also benefit from The Benefit Bank because applications and tax documents are accurate, complete, well-documented and, whenever possible, submitted electronically.
