About Village Books

Village Books is a nationally-renowned, locally owned, independently operated bookstore in Bellingham, Washington that was founded by Chuck and Dee Robinson in June of 1980.

We became a founding B Corporation because we hope to learn much more about how we might accomplish our mission. The discipline of the process was extremely useful for us and the best practices that member organizations share will be invaluable.

Village Books is a community-based, independent bookstore located in the Historic Fairhaven district of Bellingham, Washington, where it was awarded the 1995 Tourism Business of the Year by the members of the Convention & Visitors Bureau. Since 1980 we have been Whatcom County, Washington's "Community Bookshop for Browsing."

Village Books uses, and truly believes in the phrase "building community one book at a time."

• We build our community by making whatever contributions we can to the development of a healthy, literate and democratic society. We attempt to do this by building partnerships with numerous local organizations in a variety of ways –co-sponsoring programs, raising money, and publicizing their efforts.

• The books on our shelves are carefully and personally chosen by Village Books' buyers right here in Bellingham. Years of experience with local customers and knowledge of local interests (our lead buyer alone has been with the store 23 years) helps us carefully select the books you love.
