About 7group

7group provides innovative consulting services related to green building, integrative design and regenerative development, and is a collective of five individual companies that complement and integrate with each other, thereby synergizing their breadth of expertise to provide a unique variety of services. Having worked together for over 21 years, 7group’s partners have created some of the most successful green projects in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East; accordingly, they helped define internationally, the financial and environmental benefits of green buildings, integrative design and regenerative development.

The key to cost-effective green design is the practice of integrative design, a multi-disciplinary approach that mandates all design team members participate early in the design process and focus on ways to downsize or eliminate building systems. 7group’s efforts on over 100 past projects have resulted in integrated solutions that have reduced both first cost and operating costs, and led to 7group’s book on the subject, The Integrative Design Guide to Green Building: Redefining the Practice of Sustainability, published by John Wiley & Sons in 2009.

To do their work, 7group utilizes many tools (computer-generated energy modeling, daylighting simulations, building commissioning, life-cycle analysis, project development software, charrette facilitation, and communication media, to name just a few), but it is not the tools themselves that make a project successful; rather, it is how these tools are used. 7group’s partners synergize their decades of experience across numerous disciplines to finely craft projects with skillful application of these tools developing practical, usable solutions that save money and reduce environmental impacts.

We passionately believe that health of place is a right, not a sound bite, and we advocate the construction and operation of buildings and communities in a way that contributes to the health of place, not takes from it. This focus does not necessarily align with maximizing profits, and becoming a certified B Corp provides third party validation that we walk our talk!

The Change We Seek®

Sustainability is ultimately about sustaining all life. In order to truly achieve sustainability for ourselves and other species, 7group feels the need to redevelop a conscious connection with an understanding of the whole system of life-enhancing processes that shape the habitats within which they live. 7group must reintegrate their building—and their communities—with life on Earth.

Humans must understand that we cannot separate themselves from the environment.  Rather, we are but members of the same system that contributes to, is subject to, and forms the whole Earth system. Only then, can we begin to discover patterns that will help us contribute to healing of the whole – “wholing.” Surprisingly, this is not as hard as it may seem; but such an approach represents a real change in the way we think, build, and live on this planet. With a focus on this broad goal, 7group is devoted to changing people’s hearts and minds – one project, and one conversation, at a time.
