Château Maris

Organic and Biodynamic French Wine

La Liviniere, Languedoc-Roussillon

About Château Maris

Château Maris is a 79-acre estate divided into a multitude of small vineyards on the hillside above the village of La Liviniere, the first Cru Classe of the Minervois in the Languedoc region. Château Maris practices both organic and biodynamic viticulture and is certified by Ecocert, Biodyvin and Demeter. Château Maris is the first European winery to achieve Certified B Corporation® status from B Lab® Europe. Already a leader in environmentally responsible winemaking, Château Maris is joining a global movement of people using business as a force for good™.

The building in which they make their wines, the chai, is environmentally efficient, with zero carbon emission. It is a ‘vegetable’ building using only renewable raw materials – hemp lime bricks supported on a wooden structure – and therefore completely recyclable.

Château Maris is run by a small, dedicated team of people passionate about making high quality wines in an environmentally friendly-way. The Estate is managed by Robert Eden.

B Corp is a natural extension of the mission at Château Maris to seek out innovative solutions to reduce our environmental footprint throughout the winemaking process while producing high quality wines from certified organic and biodynamic grapes. B Corp pushes us to think harder and further about our impact, and firmly solidifies our commitment to improvement.

The Change We Seek®

From the beginning, Château Maris focused on sustainable winemaking practices in both the vineyard and the cellar. The process began with the conversion of unhealthy vineyards that had been farmed using traditional practices into organic and biodynamic vineyards. The next step was building an environmentally friendly carbon neutral hemp brick cellar, the first of its kind in the world. The most recent accomplishment was joining the B Corps community.

Through B Corp, Château Maris has sought out a community of like-minded people, working with businesses that inspire thinking differently about solutions on environmental and social issues. The B Corp community helps reinforce Château Maris’ drive toward continuous improvement, and provides a platform for measuring impact and engaging stakeholders and consumers throughout the process. Château Maris seeks to inspire other wineries and businesses to pursue sustainable farming practices, and socially responsible business policies.
