About HELIOZ

HELIOZ is a social enterprise based in Vienna and develops products with the potential to revolutionize the way clean water is obtained. Its aim is to support people from the bottom of the pyramid and to treat them as customers and not as beggars to ensure a sustainable support.

HELIOZ developed WADI, an innovative product for water disinfection. WADI is a solar powered UV-measurement device which is placed next to PET-bottles filled with contaminated water. It serves as an indicator for solar water disinfection. When a happy smiley face appears on the WADI, then the point is reached at which solar UV-radiation has made the water in the PET-bottles safe to drink.

As a social enterprise we were longing for a third party certification which emphasizes our objectives and our transparency. We are thrilled to be part of a global movement, especially in combination with set standards and a professional environment.

The Change We Seek®

HELIOZ goal is to improve health standards and to reduce death rates and infant mortality caused by waterborne diseases by facilitating access to safe water in rural low-income households.

Worldwide, there are still 660 million people without access to an improved drinking water source. Over 50% of all hospital beds in developing countries are occupied by people suffering from waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera and typhus. Diarrhea kills more children than AIDS, malaria and measles combined.

WADI was developed to provide a cost-effective and sustainable solution to improve the situation for the most vulnerable population. Additionally to the functional and practical qualities of WADI, its distribution also strengthens the economic basis of rural communities through local entrepreneurship programs. Households can generate income by selling disinfected water to other families within their area. This way, not only awareness about contaminated water will spread, but also economic growth can be generated.
