About Atayne
Atayne leverages groundbreaking technologies and uses "trash" (e.g. plastic bottles, coconut shells, crab shells, old garments) to develop its line of high performance athletic gear. We currently offer long and short sleeve performance tops that are emblazoned with Point of View (POV) statements such as "Run Hard. Tread Lightly." and "Reduce. Reuse. Recycle Run." The POV graphics are designed to act as mobile "billboards" allowing wearers to express their point of view.
"I'm just writing a story that I want to read." -Jean M. Auel
We became a B Corp because we didn't like the story that was being written by most of the business community. It was an easy decision to join the movement to write a new one.
Our promise to you is to design and develop high-performing athletic gear that is sensitive on the environment and safe for the people who make and use it. We started Atayne with the strong belief that there were too many compromises in the current offerings for athletic and outdoor gear. These compromises created essentially two options: compromise your environmental and social values to attain high performance, or compromise high performance to attain your environmental and social values. We decided to create a third option – compromise nothing, attain anything.
The Change We Seek®
Atayne was launched in May 2007 to inspire positive environmental and social change through the power of active lifestyles. Our first step in this mission is athletic gear made from trash. Why trash? It's better for people, better for the planet, and better for performance. That's our point of view.
• While our primary business is making athletic and outdoor gear from recycled materials, our passion and purpose is to inspire positive environmental and social change. We organize trash runs at races, consult with events on how to reduce their impact on the environment, and manufacture our products in North America.
• Atayne is developing an innovative product take back program that rewards people for submitting fully used athletic gear to be reused or recycled. Instead of immediately recycling these into new material, which is the model of most takeback programs, we will look to use the materials in their existing state to create new products. Remember the 3Rs – first you Reduce, then you Reuse, and finally you Recycle.
