About d. light

d.light is a for-profit social enterprise whose purpose is to create new freedoms for customers without access to reliable power so they can enjoy a brighter future.  They design, manufacture and distribute solar light and power products throughout the developing world.  They aim to transform the lives of at least 100 million people by 2020, and have reached 10 million since founding, currently growing at the rate of 1 million new lives transformed per month.

d.light became a B Corp to showcase but also formalize our commitment to social impact. We strive to be a social enterprise that really “walks the walk.” We are proud to be part of such an ambitious community of purpose-driven companies.

d.light serves over 40 countries, through over 6,000 retail outlets, 10 field offices, and four regional hubs.  The company employs over 200 people directly, and indirectly employs hundreds more worldwide.

d.light aims to empower over 100 million people by 2020 by supporting them to achieve a brighter future. This future includes freedom from continual expenditures on dangerous and unhealthy kerosene that harms household and environmental health. It involves longer, better at-home study experiences for students and additional income-earning hours for micro-entrepreneurs. d.light seeks nothing less than game-changing improvements in their customers lives.

The Environment section of the Assessment evaluates a company's environmental performance through its facilities; materials, resource, and energy use; and emissions. Where applicable, it also considers a company's transportation/distribution channels and environmental impact of its supply chain. This section also measures whether a company's products or services are designed to solve an environmental issue, including products that aid in the provision of renewable energy, conserve resources, reduce waste, promote land/wildlife conservation, prevent toxic/hazardous substance or pollution, or educate, measure, or consult to solve environmental problems.
