About Nossa Familia Coffee

Nossa Familia Coffee prides itself on being one of the friendliest and most approachable roasters in Portland (and the first certified B Corp roaster in Oregon!), with a strong focus on building relationships among farmers, employees, and customers. Nossa Familia - “Our Family” in Portuguese - was born in 2004, when founder Augusto Carneiro realized his engineering job wasn’t putting a spring in his step. Filled with a deep sense of pride for the beautiful coffee his family had been growing for over a century in Brazil, Augusto decided to quit his job and bring his family’s coffee to Portland. In those early years, all of Nossa Familia’s coffee was imported directly from Augusto’s family’s farms in Brazil; over time Nossa Familia has developed direct relationships with coffee growers around the world.

Now with a roasting facility and espresso bar in Northwest Portland, Nossa Familia Coffee supplies wholesale accounts and customers across the Rose City and beyond with conscientiously-sourced and meticulously-roasted coffee from various growing regions. Coffee quality, mutually beneficial relationships with producers, engaging and supporting the local community, minimizing environmental footprint, and having fun remain fundamental to Nossa Familia’s reason for being.

Becoming a B Corp provided a framework for formalizing our social and environmental practices and is the perfect way to communicate our standards to our customers. With a goal of becoming one of the top 100 companies to work for in Oregon, we love that it pushes continual growth in the sustainability realm and connects us to an amazing network of like-minded businesses. Our customers care about the social and environmental impacts of the coffee they drink, and we are happy to provide them with a certification that helps convey our shared values.

The Change We Seek®

Nossa Familia sees coffee as an avenue to form meaningful relationships, and business as a way to instigate positive change. Their end product is an incredible cup of coffee to savor on a busy morning or chat over with a friend, but the chain that creates that cup holds a myriad of possibilities for positive impact at each step. Nossa Familia sees coffee as a way to forge local and international connections, to educate and learn, to improve quality of life, and to encourage innovation. They support local businesses, coffee importers who share our values, and non-profits who lead empowerment projects at origin. They develop personal relationships with the amazing producers who grow the coffee they roast– exchanging skill sets and experience – and work toward a world where being a coffee grower is as sustainable and rewarding as being a coffee roaster.
