About Quetsol

Quetsol is a Guatemalan renewable energy company providing affordable solar power solutions to the rural poor living outside the reach of the electricity grid. The focus in on offering micro-scale energy solutions for families and communities who have always lacked even the most basic electrical service. Quetsol’s flexible pricing options and business model allow customers to procure lighting and electrical services at a lower financial, social, and environmental cost than the alternatives – from candles and kerosene to the grid itself.

Quetsol is about two things: providing sustainable energy to those off the grid, and harnessing the power of the private sector to bring about real, micro-scale solutions to those in need. We formed Quetsol with the intention of applying the skills obtained through our corporate backgrounds to address urgent problems affecting our country. B Corp represents a community of like-minded individuals who are thinking outside the box to bring about positive change for their own countries, people, and environments.

Founded in 2010  by homegrown Guatemalans, Juan Fermín Rodriguez and Manuel Tono Aguilar, Quetsol came about as a response to the severe lack of energy access that the two witnessed traveling around the countryside. Each solar power kit available for purchase is designed to provide for these households at the level that they require, ranging from simple 10W kits to provide lighting and charge cell phones to 75W kits that power electronics such as laptops, cooking appliances, and televisions.

The Change We Seek®

Quetsol provides their customers the necessary tools in order to become energetically independent, thus increasing their productivity and development.  This goal is based in the belief that in this day and age, access to lighting and energy is a critical element of human development. Life off the electricity grid is a reality for around 2,350,000 Guatemalans, but in the big picture, for around 1.6 billion people worldwide. Quetsol seeks to be a leading factor in a new generation of companies that utilize solar power to provide more affordable, more sustainable, and more transparent energy solutions to these 1.6 billion people who most need them.
