About rTraction

rTraction Canada, Inc. (rTraction), was founded in 2001 with one purpose: to work with great people and do cool sh*t. The work started with building websites and web applications to help clients put out their messaging.

As the online world has evolved, so has rTraction’s services and clients, as well as those clients’ needs. Today, rTraction operates as two divisions: Ellipsis Digital and Engine SevenFour. These teams work side by side to deliver on a shared purpose in an office space that has won numerous awards for its design and adaptive reuse. What’s different between the teams is how they work day-to-day and the types of clients they serve.

Ellipsis Digital is a digital agency that works with arts and cultural institutions, mental health leaders and community energizers to create the link between the audience and the story. Services include: impact stories that help organizations communicate their value, award-winning creative on the web and in print, mobile applications that break down barriers between people and the services they need, digital marketing campaigns that amplify a client’s message, and goal-oriented websites that bolster the bottom line.

Engine SevenFour is a custom web application shop that helps deliver entertainment to the world by bringing efficiency to otherwise complex processes. While Engine SevenFour has deep expertise working with content distributors in the entertainment industry, they are always open to a challenge for a business that wants to make existing clunky and costly processes simple and efficient through intelligent software development.

Giving back, working with purpose and creating a great culture have been a part of our DNA since we opened our doors in 2001. When we found out about the B Corp movement we were inspired to learn how to do even better from B Lab and other like-minded businesses (validating the work we were already doing was a bonus). We have a manifesto that outlines our core values and is ever present in our space and our decision making, and one line in particular underscores the value that drives us as a Certified B Corp: Connect. Grow. Be a force for good.

The Change We Seek®

Technology is pervasive; rTraction works to ensure that technology enhances the experience of community, so that access to content is barrier free. Every single rTraction project starts with helping people discover their story, and each step from there is about helping clients to deliver their purpose. Purpose is equally important inside rTraction’s walls, some of which are adorned with its aspirational manifesto to help inspire and guide the team driving the remarkable work:

RISE. SHOW UP. SHINE. WORK FOR PEOPLE OVER PAYCHEQUES. SPEAK WELL, LISTEN BETTER. BE BOTH TEACHER AND STUDENT. FILL YOUR MIND AND THE COFFEE POT. REMEMBER FAILURES AREN'T ENDINGS, BUT LESSONS. TRUST THAT THOSE AROUND YOU WILL BREAK YOUR FALL. MOMENTS, SEIZE THEM. DOUBTS, CEASE THEM. ASPIRATIONS, DREAM THEM. GAME CHANGERS, BE THEM. REVEL IN YOUR CRAFT, REJOICE IN YOUR PLAY. WORK YOUR QUIRK. DON'T BE A TEAM OF COWORKERS, BE A TEAM OF SUPERHEROES. BUT NO CAPES. CONNECT. GROW. BE A FORCE FOR GOOD. BE CURIOUS, DARE GREATLY, BUILD A LEGACY. THIS IS NOT YOUR JOB, THIS IS YOUR PASSION.

What makes us a better company?
