About WHEB Asset Management

The WHEB Asset Management investment philosophy is focused on a single long-only global equities strategy, to invest in companies providing solutions to some of the most serious environmental and social challenges facing mankind over the coming decades. This strategy focuses on sustainable investment and the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into investment decision-making.

The firm is independent and owner managed, run by some of the most experienced practitioners of sustainable investment. This structure is designed to align the firm’s interests closely with those of its investors.

WHEB’s investment process is subject to rigorous and independent oversight, and the firm actively fosters a culture of openness and transparency with its investors.

Our corporate mission is to “advance sustainability and create prosperity through positive impact investments”. Being a B Corp underlines our commitment to sustainability and enables us to formalise this in our legal structure as well as setting out our obligation to the wider community; to use business as a force for good.

The Change We Seek®

Long-term social, demographic, environmental and resource challenges are reshaping the economic landscape, creating new investment opportunities for companies providing solutions to these challenges, and growing risks for those sectors that deplete human and natural capital. Companies providing solutions to these challenges can be grouped into a number of social and environmental “sustainability” themes. All these sustainability themes are underpinned by long-term secular change and have structural growth characteristics that are superior to the rest of the economy; in this way they provide a powerful source of investment value. WHEB Asset Management recognises this and has constructed a portfolio of companies that both enable and benefit from the transition to a more sustainable economy.

The firm actively engages with its portfolio companies’ managements as well as the wider policy and regulatory communities. Engagement activity encompasses long-term issues affecting whole sectors through to specific issues at individual companies. This engagement activity prioritises companies where there is the potential for real change and fostering of a more progressive approach to sustainable business practices. WHEB uses a collaborative approach, working alongside other investor groups, where this affords greater leverage on the issues addressed. Beyond direct engagement work, the firm shares its thinking, and promotes sustainability issues through external events, media engagement and support for investor initiatives focused on public policy issues.

The firm also embraces transparency as an opportunity to connect with its investors more closely, and uses a variety of tools to do so. These include enhanced reporting and disclosure, and an advisory committee whose key function is to review the fund’s holdings and ensure they meet with both the spirit and the letter of the fund’s sustainability criteria, as well as providing a discussion forum for strategic developments in WHEB’s thematic investment strategy.
