Established in 1996, Deep Ecology is a full-service, five-star PADI Dive Center located on Oahu's famous North Shore in historic Haleiwa. Their history includes ghost net recoveries and over 50 endangered Green Sea Turtle rescues, which resulted in the creation of the North Shore's first marine sanctuary. They're committed to providing their divers with top notch dive locations. They are also a National Geographic recognized diver center, offering a specialty course designed to train their customers to become skilled divers and naturalists.
We were a social enterprise before even knowing the term; intuitively we knew that ethical business held great capacity for positive change. Over the years we have seen this intuition grow into a movement and becoming a B Corporation is like coming home.
Whether you are just starting out or acquiring new training, their instructors will guide you in a unique and special experience. From the first cautious breath during a Discover Scuba Dive or the exploration of a shipwreck during Advanced and Specialty training, they will provide the best training possible to keep you diving, learning and exploring.
The Change We Seek®
They envision the day where every dive operation uses the resources inherent in such businesses to give back as they have done. Having led by example, they are preparing for the logical step of expanding and possibly franchising their business model to accelerate and achieve this goal.
• Protecting the marine environment has been a passion and focus for Deep Ecology. Through their initiatives, and with the cooperation of the North Shore community, a marine sanctuary was created at Sharks Cove to protect all sea life. They have rescued over fifty Green Sea Turtles, trapped by fishing line or debris. When they see an injured or trapped turtle, they act immediately to help that creature. They work actively to protect marine life from entrapment in abandoned fishing nets, and to clear the ocean of other debris. Through dives and regular beach clean ups, they have collected over 5 tons of debris. Whenever they are in a position to reduce human impact on marine life they will, so long as it does not compromise their divers' safety. Their record is impeccable.
