At method, we're in business to change business. In the same way we take the dirt out of cleaning, we strive to eliminate some of business's dirty practices.
We believe our business practices and processes should be as clean as the products we make. In that spirit, we develop formulas and design our products to meet the Cradle to Cradle standard, meaning we consider the past, present and future implications in everything we do.
Cradle to Cradle is a philosophy that we apply to every method product, and to the business itself. method was one of the first companies to be recognized as a Cradle to Cradle company, acknowledging our practices from the environmental quality of our products to how we manufacture them. We currently have over 60 products Cradle to Cradle certified, among the most of any company in the world.
method relies on green chemistry to power our formulas. Our team of formulation chemists (known as the green chefs) finds and develops advanced applications of innovative materials, relying on smart science rather than hazardous concentrations of conventional chemicals with unknown effects. Every material method uses is assessed by an external material science firm to ensure health and environmental safety.
We design our packaging to be truly closed loop – bottles made from recycled plastic that in turn are recyclable. We work with our suppliers and manufacturers to find ways to improve the environmental profile of their operations including dematerialization, energy efficiency and water-free processes. Rather than just looking at ways to offset carbon that has already been emitted, we seek out partnerships that help us to reduce our carbon footprint at the front end of our business, like shipping our products in biodiesel trucks.
