About The Redwoods Group

Founded in 1997, The Redwoods Group, a privately held, socially conscious company, provides property and casualty insurance underwriting and risk and claims management services to YMCAs, Jewish Community Centers and resident camps across the nation. Our business and social mission is to protect and improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. Our motto is Serve Others®. We believe that business can and should be a powerful force for positive social change. Partnering with others, we have to change the world. Our goal is to encourage businesses everywhere to embrace serving others and improving the human condition.

We became a B Corp to let everyone we engage with know that we consider the community to be an important stakeholder when making business decisions. Now we can partner with other leading like-minded businesses to heal and build our communities.

The Redwoods Group defines "sustainability" very broadly -- from maintaining a strong corporate financial position to supporting our employee-led environmental program, Serve Earth. As the recent collapse of the financial markets has demonstrated, predatory business practices driven by easy credit and consumerism are not sustainable. We believe good business practices are the back bone of sustainable communities.

The Change We Seek™

Serve Others® is at the top of our business model. While most companies declare profits to be their primary motivation and some even place the social mission on the same level as their commercial motives, our sole reason for being The Redwoods Group is to Serve Others®. Service to the community and change effected within it are not byproducts of our business, they are the ends to which our business is simply the means.

• We consider employee volunteerism and charitable giving essential priorities of a socially responsible organization. Our employees spend 40 hours of their work time each year in service to the community. We match most employee contributions to charities and Redwoods as a company commits to contributing a minimum of 10 percent of pre-tax income to charity every year. Redwoods management believes business owners should take care of their employees. That’s why Redwoods offers generous benefits, including free health care coverage for lower paid employees and scholarships to pay for four years college tuition for employees’ children.
