About Untours
Untours is a 30 year old travel business which offers apartment-based independent vacation packages in Europe.
We support the goal of creating a new sector of the economy in which companies like ours are recognized and valued for our emphasis on the triple bottom line. We became a B Corporation so we could identify ourselves as a member of this new sector.
The staff at Untours is passionate about European travel! In fact, one of the 'requirements' for working at Untours is spending at least a couple weeks overseas each year, visiting the Untours programs and properties so that we can make sure everything in the program is working well. The company strives to pay above-average salaries and provide a challenging and positive work environment for its employees. In addition to its commitment to its employees, Untours attempts to minimize its environmental impact in every way possible.
The Change We Seek™
Untours’ mission is to foster a healthy and healing society that unites people of different cultures and economic statuses. We feel it is imperative to reconnect people to each other and to the earth. We hope that we, as a company, can be the change we wish to see in the world.
• Most of Untours' profits are given to the Untours Foundation for the purpose of social investing. Owners Norma & Hal Taussig believe in living simply and in sharing the profits of their business to create a better world. In 1999, they won an award from Paul Newman and John F. Kennedy, Jr., for having the Most Generous Business in the United States.
• The Untours Foundation's interest rate on loans is one of the lowest in the world: normally the U.S. inflation rate. Most loan recipients do not have the collateral or track record necessary to borrow money through conventional lending institutions. Through giving loans and not grants, the foundation provides a "hand up" and not a "hand out."
