Standards Advisory Council
B Lab’s Standards Advisory Council is an independent, multi-stakeholder group composed of members from around the world with specific expertise in responsible and sustainable business.
Standards Advisory Council members come from backgrounds in business, government, academia, and the nonprofit sector, and bring a diverse range of experience and expertise on a broad range of topics related to using and evaluating business as a force for good. Members are appointed by B Lab’s Board of Directors.
The Standards Advisory Council consists of two subcommittees. The Main Standards Advisory Council Subcommittee is focused on the overall certification requirements and standards, while the Multinational Company Standards Advisory Council Subcommittee is focused on specific application of the standards for larger companies.
The Main Standards Advisory Council oversees:
Overall performance requirements for B Corp Certification.
Content and scoring of the B Impact Assessment.
Development of position statements on Controversial Issues.
Determining risk eligibility for companies with less than $1B in annual revenue.
Approval of B Impact Assessment addenda created by expert Working Groups.
Adjudicating any appeals regarding interpretation of the B Impact Assessment.

The Multinational Company Standards Advisory Council is responsible for:
Applying the performance requirements of the B Corp Certification and B Movement Builders programs for large companies.
Evaluating company compliance with baseline requirements for B Corp Certification for $5B+ parent companies.
Determining risk eligibility for $1B+ companies, as well as those in the B Movement Builders program.
