Driving change through collective action
What is collective action?
Collective action is when communities, companies, and governments collaborate to bring about systemic change, often through coalition building, research, and policy advocacy. It is the cornerstone of the B Corp movement, which is why Government Affairs & Collective Action is now a key Impact Topic in the new standards, developed to help drive and shape the collective efforts of our community. Why is it important?
Developing local, regional, and global communities for change is a core strategy for B Lab.
The B Corp movement goes beyond individual company’s certification. Becoming a Certified B Corp connects you to something bigger: a global community of businesses taking coordinated action to change the structure of our economic system, so that it benefits people and the planet. When thousands of businesses take the same actions, the outcome we can achieve is greater than the sum of our parts.

Envisioning a world where beauty is not only skin deep, but regenerative, this coalition mobilizes the B Corp community to use collective expertise to improve practices across the beauty industry.
Onboarding Nature
An initiative spearheaded by B Lab Benelux to equip businesses with practical tools to assess impacts on ecosystems, align with emerging regulation, and embed nature stewardship into core decision-making.
Empresas B por el Clima
A collective of 200+ B Corps in Latin America driving collective climate action, and supporting companies’ transition to the B Lab Standards V2 by facilitating learning and the planning and measurement of climate strategies.
Catalyzing climate advocacy through B Locals

Accomplishing our movement’s goal of a fairer, more inclusive, regenerative economy requires the creation and implementation of policy work, to drive legal change in business accountability and social and environmental impact.
B Lab’s place at the intersection of business and civil society means that we can be a catalyst: actively participating in key discussions and legislation shaping the business ecosystem, and creating the conditions for positive impact and advocating for responsible practices.
Our advocacy
Our policy strategy is based on campaigns, direct policy engagement, advocacy and lobbying, and collective action. In order to push for the change we need, B Lab engages in policy advocacy — taking part in actively shaping the regulatory frameworks that govern business.
This includes embedding stakeholder governance in legal structures — a key principle of the B Corp movement that advocates for businesses benefiting the stakeholders they affect, such as employees, local communities, and nature itself, and not just shareholders.

Our Policy Initiatives
Better Business Act
Mobilizes Britain’s private and public sector leaders to seek amendments to Section 172 of the Companies Act 2006, so that businesses will be legally obligated to operate in a way that benefits their stakeholders.
Empresas con Propósito
A grassroots initiative that mobilized over 400 B Corps in Spain to legally recognize purpose-driven businesses, and continues to support its adoption to strengthen the ecosystem of impact-oriented business.
Sociedades de Benefício e Interés Colectivo
Sistema B Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay and Panama successfully passed the sociedades de Beneficio e Interés Colectivo law in their respective countries, legally recognizing purpose-driven companies.
Enabling purpose-driven competitiveness
B Lab is mobilizing businesses and policymakers to create a stronger environment for responsible business practices, levelling the playing field and boosting competitiveness and resilience in the EU.
Climate & Sustainability Disclosures
B Lab has engaged in the development of mandatory climate and sustainability disclosure regimes across Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand, the EU, UK, and California to drive transformation and strengthen accountability.
