Voice of the B Corporation Community

B Corps are Best for the World

B Corp certification shines a light on the companies leading the global movement of people using business as a force for good. Today, over 500 companies worldwide were recognized for their exceptional social and environmental impact. B the Change Media released the 2016 Best for the World lists, highlighting the companies all over the world that are creating exceptional positive social and environmental impact.

Every year, B Lab highlights the Certified B Corporations in the B Corp community that go above and beyond in their pursuit of positive impact. All B Corporations take the B Impact Assessment and meet verified score requirements to become certified. In the assessment, companies are evaluated on their impact on the environment, their workers, their customers, and their communities; they also all meet the highest standards of accountability and transparency. Winning companies featured on the Best for the World lists scored in the top 10% of the B Corp community in each of five categories—they are the top performers in an already exceptional group of businesses. Learn more about the criteria.

Of the 515 winning companies in 2016, honorees spanned over 30 countries and 44 industries. Companies honored for best overall performance include Colorado beer maker New Belgium Brewing and Roshan, a groundbreaking Afghanistan-based telecom that was recognized for their exceptional community work. In other categories, Revolution Foods, a company based in California that creates healthy food for children is being applauded for being the top business for customers; Sungevity, an American solar provider, was named number one for the environment; and Gardner’s Supply company, a Vermont retailer, was named the leading company for employees.

The outstanding businesses featured on the Best for the World Lists for 2016 are being celebrated today at the first annual Best for the World Gathering. Powered by B the Change Media, the conference is being held at the University of California, Berkeley, in partnership with the Haas School of Business and the Center for Responsible Business. All-star panelists and speakers from around the world will dive into what it means to use business as a force for good—we’ve never seen such a powerhouse line-up. Through the Best for the World lists and event, we hope to introduce a new generation of entrepreneurs to the B Corp movement and inspire them to join our community’s race to the top.

You can explore the lists in full online, and they will appear in print in the next issue of B Magazine. Look for it on newsstands or subscribe now! Check back soon for our recap of the Best for the World gathering.
