About Fair Trade Jewellery Co.

Every piece of jewellery tells a story. These stories are beautiful, singular and unexpected, having roots that travel much deeper than the mere circumstance of how two people met and fell in love. The jewelry that we give one another, the symbols of our unique love, isn’t just conjured from the ether. Most gems are dug out of the ground, and usually it’s a rather messy and ugly business that comes at great peril for the individuals doing the mining and for the environment. For this reason FTJCo believe it’s essential that every step a ring makes on its journey to you is accounted for.

All Fairtrade and Fairmined gold comes from small-scale and artisanal mines that take great pains to reduce their dependence on harmful chemicals. This is good news for the environment and for the people who live and mine in these communities. It’s not overstating things in the least to say that this gold changes the lives of those who mine it, and at FTJCo they want to make sure it’s for the better, not the worse. The fair pay that the workers earn changes their lives and the lives of their communities. Fairtrade and Fairmined standards make the workplace a safer place to go each day, empower the workers within an industry in which they’ve traditionally been voiceless and protect the environment. It’s good for everybody, and FTJCo wants its jewellery to tell stories that positively illuminates each person who was a part of the journey that brought it to you.

Look carefully and you’ll see unique hallmarks on every piece, a small reminder of all the people and processes this jewelry has passed through to get to you.

We strongly believe in 3rd party validation, it’s simply not enough to say you’re a ‘good’ company there must be accountability. Becoming a Certified BCorp was essential to assessing our performance as an employer, manufacturer, and retailer against other leading, progressive companies.

The Change We Seek®

We are proud to have pioneered ethical sourcing. We were the first jeweller in North America, and one of only a handful internationally to launch Fairtrade Certified Gold. We have an obligation to more than just ourselves. From miners to craftspeople there is no compromising on quality or ethics. That’s why we continue to challenge the standards of our industry and its business practices in both dialogue and action.

What makes us a better company?
