About Sustainable Insight Capital Management

Sustainable Insight Capital Management (SICM) is a registered financial advisor based in New York. The firm manages long-only equity products on behalf of institutional clients, integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) research into its disciplined investment process. Since its founding in 2013, SICM has been committed to our investment philosophy, which takes into account the idea that sustainability risk factors are affecting asset pricing and can no longer be ignored.

SICM also publishes research on the intersection of sustainability and finance, including our weekly newsletter, Sustainable Insights, and a number of bespoke publications. Recent topics have examined the ESG rating agencies, the value of Social factors in a portfolio and the risks and returns of fossil fuel free investing.

The firm was founded in 2013 by a team with deep investment experience and a broad understanding of how ESG factors impact the performance of organizations. Their principals have worked closely with a number of organizations working to promote sustainable practices, including the Sustainable Accounting Standards Board, The Carbon Disclosure Project, Ceres, and the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

SICM elected to become a B Corp in order to commit to and promote high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency while positively impacting the lives of our clients, vendors, partners, and employees.

The Change We Seek®

Since their inception, SICM has been committed to integrating sustainability into their business practices, in respect to their employees and the communities they work, in as well as in their own operations. They considered sustainability factors in their New York office construction and operation, such as sourcing environmentally friendly furniture and fixtures, relying on local manufacturers and vendors, using low VOC paint to improve indoor air quality, and encouraging employees to use low-emissions commute options by subsidizing public transportation. They additionally consider environmental and social factors in their purchasing guidelines and value diversity in their hiring decisions, both with respect to employees and independent directors on their board. In their journey to becoming a B Corp, Sustainable Insight Capital Management underwent a series of performance and legal measures, including an evaluation of their impact on stakeholders, and the incorporation of sustainability into their mission and governing documents. The section focuses on whether a company sells products or services that promote public benefit, and if those products/services are targeted towards serving underserved populations. Questions in this section will measure whether a company's product or service is designed to solve a social or environmental issue (e.g. improves health, preserves environment or creates economic opportunity to individuals or communities, promotes the arts/sciences, or increases the flow of capital to purpose-driven enterprises).
